North Station
North Station is an electroacoustic music studio at the Sumy Philharmonic, whose first residency took place in July. Over the course of a week, composers and their mentors explored the city, its history and its people. Twenty kilometers from the front line, life feels different: the alarm never fades and the explosions sound louder. Yet despite everything, the city keeps on living and inspiring with its beauty and its atmosphere of resilience. “Expedition” captures a local identity and serves as a sonic archive of the present day, shaped by the artistic vision of its composers.
The foundation of the musical works was a set of collected field recordings — from the spatial echo of a library to the primal rhythms of an authentic potter’s wheel. Through the collaboration, raw electronic matter blended organically with the living breath of the academic instruments played by soloists of the Renaissance chamber orchestra. This debut compilation album is a sincere emotional diary that turns the tension of the borderland into a deep psychoacoustic experience, allowing every listener to take their own journey and feel the North.
